We have a baby due in 3 months. I'm starting to panic. As for Shanna, she's alright.

Although we have similar personalities in many ways, Shanna and I have radically different ways of prioritizing things. I tend to think about things very far in the future while Shanna focuses on immediate goals. On a typical weekend, for example, I'll spend a good chunk of time pouring through Quicken trying to figure out if we're saving enough for retirement 35 years from now. Meanwhile, its usually around Thursday that Shanna will start worrying about when during the weekend we should go to the grocery store.

This, shall we say, complimentary approach to timescales has manifested itself in how we deal with our impending parenthood. Except that I've completely lost my mind. Shanna spends most evenings after her long commute relaxing on the couch. I'm, however, pretty convinced that there are a million things that I need to do before the baby is born. Last night I tackled what is clearly priority #1. Go through my old cassettes and VHS tapes and figure out what we need to get on itunes, CD or DVD. Because that one damn box is taking up critical space!

Having a baby is a great excuse to convince your partner to tidy up and get rid of household annoyances. In my case, household annoyances came in the form of an extremely ugly and oversized man chair. Ahh... life without the man chair has been fantastic.

Its all in the approach. I bet it would have been much easier to get rid of the man-chair if you said something like, "If you sell the man-chair you can afford a Wii."

Give up on trying to save for retirement and college. You will never have enough! Just try and agree on a name!

From the school of Dave Zittin Economics - all you really need to do is:

    1. Pay yourself first.
    2. Don't spend too much money on hair products.

Follow those two golden rules and you'll be fine in the longterm.

I've also come across another good rule: earn in the pound, spend in the dollar.

New retirement plan: move in with Mom!

Also, I'm fairly certain that Dave shouldn't be the poster child for hair product choice.
