Aaron and I have known each other for around eleven and a half years and for about eleven of those years he has relentlessly teased me on my absolute lack of modern music knowledge. (ribbing my "Rock in the Asphalt, Rock in the Asphalt" or "..colors were like my dreams, them golden dreams, them golden dreeeaaamms.") I scared him the other day when we received Raffi's Baby Beluga
But that's beside the point. I'm learning that my Music Man really isn't all that more lyrically astute than me. I read that fetuses will move in rhythm to music and I'm eager to have Aaron feel the baby move. So I didn't think it would be that awful to have him sing to my belly to get the baby to kick. But Aaron can't sing any song past one line - just enough to get the baby all primed to rock out without any real boogieing. Even my suggestions of songs I thought he would know more than one line were little more than "On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair, duh duh duh, ummm how does it go? crap" I think both baby and Aaron are getting frustrated with the whole routine. That is until I suggested "that Chess Bangkok song". Baby and even more so Aaron partied like it was 1999.
When I was explaining The Wiz to my friends in the UK, they thought I was pulling their leg. The Wizard of Oz starring Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Nipsy Russell and Richard Pryor - in retrospect I wonder where we got that album?
I just looked up the Wiz on Wikipedia and Joel Schumaker wrote the screenplay - go figure.
And speaking of lyrics, Don and I have found ourselves singing The Rolling Stones or The Chieftans to Lila because those are the only songs where we know all the words. (Or Don does anyway...)
Now if you excuse me I need to get "Ease on down the road" out of my head.
