Even though I only really had time for one geeky project, June was an exceptionally geeky month. I picked up a NSLU2 mini server off ebay and been working on enhancing it. My goal for this is to replace my old unstable desktop PC that has been acting as a file and media server. We use the server in conjunction with the Xbox 360 to see our pictures and movies on the TV. Besides taking much less electricity, I'm hoping the mini server will be more reliable.

The NSLU2 or "slug" has Linux at its core and has hundreds of software packages that you can add to it once you change the firmware. So far I've set it to update it's time every time it powers up* and act as an itunes server for my music collection. This is my first real Linux adventure.

*I had to do this since I think the battery is dead and I needed to clock set right so it will power down at the right time at night. I got this to work, although I'm not exactly sure how. The itunes server I got to work intentionally. Yay me!
