Reunion

This past weekend was my ten year college reunion. Shanna and I had a really great time. We actually see most of my friends who were there fairly regularly but there were a few people I haven't seen since graduation that it was nice to see again.

A couple of stories. Someone from my class who I have absolutely no recollection of was MCing the event. He played this little game where we were supposed to find out who traveled the farthest to come to the reunion. It went like this:

"Who's traveled the farthest?"
two second pause
"Well she came from Equador, can anyone beat that"

Geez, give us a chance! You'd think he would start with something like, who came from outside Los Angeles, or outside California.

A politics professor I barely remember was our special guest. He gave a little speech about how our class has seen more changes in the world in the ten years since graduation than any class since 1960. Shanna cried foul. She doesn't think there is anything especially different between any class of the late 90s and up to the class of 2001 for that matter. I'd argue that the class of 1995 probably has seen the most changes. When I arrived at Oxy in 1994, email was available via telnet but the web was still mostly text based and relatively obscure.

Funny second hand story: My friend Amy recently took her family back east to go to her husband's college reunion. On the plane flight back her four year old exclaims in a typical four year old voice, "Mom, they have wine! You love wine!"

Jacob and I met our freshman year and were roomates our sophmore, junior and senior years

Here we are in May, 1997. I believe this was my 21st birthday. Dang, that was over 11 years ago. I thought I had grey hair then!

Of the seven of us who lived together our senior year, Jacob, Eric, Amy and myself, were able to make it to the reunion. I should note that Shanna, Sara and a few others effectively lived with us for the latter part of that year, but their official reunion is next year.

Unfortunately, this is the only picture I could find with everyone from the reunion picture. Amy is the hardest to spot, she's wearing the gas mask. I wish I had a good explanation for what is going on here. As you can see we had a good time our senior year.

The power of COSA will live on in all of us. It may not manifest itself in such a dramatic fashion as in that last photo, or as it did in the feature film, but then again we can be quite thankful for that. Hey, I like the two photos of us seperated by 11 years. Pretty cool.
