Today is Blog Action Day and the topic is the environment. Here's my contribution. Incandescent light bulbs (normal bulbs) are terribly inefficient. You shouldn't use them. Incandescent bulbs are a very old technology, the dinosaurs used them, and look at them now. In our home, I've been phasing out incandescent bulbs and replacing them with compact fluorescent (CFL) bulbs. Unfortunately, CFLs, which are much more efficient and use a standard socket, always seem so faint. My solution is use bigger CFL bulbs than what is recommended as the incandescent equivalent. Supposedly a 15W CFL is equivalent to a 60W incandescent bulb. Sometimes, especially in regard to flood lights, I don't buy it. Instead, I've replaced some of 60W incandescent bulbs with 23W CFLs, which are equivalent to a 100W incandescent bulb. It still draws less power and is more efficient than the original 60W incandescent bulb.
Now since I know most of our visitors don't read our blog, so much as look at the pictures, here is an incandescent bulb, Ezra, and a compact fluorescent bulb. Clearly Ezra prefers the more efficient bulb.

October 15, 2007 at 5:56 PMWe put in these n:vision bulbs in two rooms and I HATE them. It takes 5 minutes for them to light up. By then you are out of the room. I am all for the dinosour bulbs! Keep the pictures coming!! Nana
