Kill your TV

Despite being a gadget and AV geek I really don't watch all that much TV. Perhaps it's my 30 second attention span but generally speaking, if Shanna puts on a show I'll lose interest halfway through and start doing something else. (For the record Shanna isn't much better, except she falls asleep.) Occasionally, however, a show comes around that I find really engaging. Years ago it was Star Trek. More recently it's been Battlestar Galactica. Before we were married (and before DVRs) Shanna called to tell me she saw Paul McCartney at a restaurant, I basically hung up on her since she called during one Star Trek or another.

Lately I've been really into the show Flight of the Conchords on HBO. The basic idea is that transplanted Kiwis Brett and Jermaine (who are playing stranger versions of themselves) are living and trying to have their novelty folk band be discovered in New York. They have an inept band manager who works in the New Zealand consulate, one crazed fan, and an American friend who, well, hates them just a little. A couple times during the show there will be a musical aside, and they'll sing one of their funny songs. In some ways it is similar to a hilarious show I caught in England last year called The Mighy Boosh, except less psychedelic and unfortunately unavailable to my knowledge in the US. If you have HBO, however, I recommend checking out Flight of the Conchords.

Jacob showed me the first episode recently using his nifty On-Demand superpower. Great stuff.

"And when you're on the street, depending on the street, I bet you are definitely in the top three good looking girls on the street."

    Hilarious.

I remember the story of Paul McCartney, and for some reason I thought it was after you were married. Wow. Way to woo her, Aaron.
That aside, I LOVE flight of the Conchords. They play them a lot on my local radio station. We used to have HBO, but we just couldn't reconcile paying for it for only one show. I was able to download a couple from HBO.com though...

Yes, we didn't have so much a courtship as a romantic decathelon.

Jacob and I love the show. [I actually am watching an episode in the background now, but it's in Spanish--HBO Latino--and somehow it loses something in translation.]

We still walk around singing "00101100011 The humans are dead" from the debut episode to each other.
