The hospital where we're planning on delivering The Kid is brand new. So new, in fact, that we were somewhat concerned that it would not be open in time. One of the features of the "birthing suite" that we'll be using is that it has internet access. When they told us this during the tour my geek-gears shifted in to overdrive. I turned to Shanna and said, "Hey great, we can live-blog the birth!". Although she's loathe to admit it, Shanna is almost as big of an internet junkie as I am. Her response was something like, "Ohh, that would be cool!" Followed five minutes later with "Actually, I think I'm going to have to veto that." Her concern was that I would pay more attention to the computer than to her. (FYI, "Isn't that why we have the doula" was not a good retort.) Over the past few weeks, we've decided on what I think is a good arrangement. We're going to try to live blog the more inactive parts of labor with an understanding that I need to drop everything when I'm needed.* If you're interested in blog posts like "Shanna just threatened to murder me" or "I never should have agreed to this ice-water thing" check back here when the countdown clock on the left approaches zero.

*Having the computer around has a few other benefits, I don't need to think too much about what music and movies to bring since I can just dump it all on the computer. Also we'll be able to Skype our far flung parents and siblings either postpartum or if we end up with a lot of down time.

I hope that you guys will continue the blog even long after the baby is born. I hate living so far away when so much stuff is going on and your blog brings me one step closer. x Mara
